Become part of the Helix community. Whether you have an evening a month or a season to give, there is a place for your time, your skills and your ideas.
Why volunteer?
The institute has no work that is not done by someone who chose to do it.
Volunteers contribute their time, skills and ideas to support the institute's mission. They run the gardens, host the assemblies, write the notes, check the evidence and keep the books. In return they get a community, a say in what happens next, and the particular satisfaction of seeing a thing exist because they showed up.
We ask for reliability rather than heroics. A few hours you can actually give are worth more to us than many you cannot.
How you can help

Events
Set up, welcome, host and pack down at assemblies, dialogues, pitch nights and harvest evenings.
Projects
Join a project team for a season: gardens, the wardrobe, the lab, the youth programme.
Community
Look after members and newcomers, run the welcome rota, keep the Discord alive.
Communications
Write Field Notes, shoot and edit, keep the socials honest, translate.
Research
Help the Open Knowledge Lab gather, check and summarise evidence in plain language.
Administration
Bookkeeping, minutes, membership records, grant paperwork. The quiet work that lets the rest happen.
Who can volunteer?
Anyone who wants to.
Students, retirees, professionals, newcomers to Luxembourg, people between jobs, people with three jobs. Different skills, interests and levels of experience are welcome, and most roles can be learned on the way.
You need to be at least sixteen, or accompanied by an adult member for events. Some roles working with young people require a clean criminal record extract, which we will tell you about before you commit.

We reply to every application, usually within a week, and always with a real person.
Members are the institute. They vote at Community Assemblies, choose the next projects and hold the board to account. Two supporting tiers add a little more.

Support us
Fund a small project quickly.
Most of what we do costs little and starts fast. A donation covers seeds, a room, a printed guide, a bus for a school group.
Online donations are coming soon. Until then, write to us and we will send bank details and a receipt.
