The Helix Anthropis Institute is an international institute for sustainable human development. We bring people, knowledge and resources together in service of humanity and the common good, without discrimination.

Who we are

An institute built by a community, working across disciplines and borders so that people can live, learn and flourish.

The Helix Anthropis Institute promotes and facilitates initiatives that contribute to the advancement of humanity and the common good. It is independent, member-led and based in Luxembourg, with projects and partners across the Greater Region and beyond.

Our role is practical. We connect people who have a need with people who have time, knowledge or resources. We run projects long enough to learn from them, publish what we learn in plain language, and hand the results to the communities and institutions that can carry them further.

Our story

A few friends came together with a dream and want to make it a reality.

That is the whole origin story, and we like it that way. The institute grew out of conversations between friends who shared one conviction: that cooperation, knowledge and innovation can be organised deliberately in service of the common good, and that ordinary people can do the organising.

The dream has since become statutes, a membership, a board, a small office in Hollerich and a growing list of projects. The friends are still here. So is the dream.

Scientific Integrity and Pluralism

We follow the evidence, say what we do not know, and make room for more than one school of thought.

Accountability and Institutional Learning

Every project is reviewed. What went wrong is written down and used, not hidden.

Transparency

Our decisions, budgets and results are open to members and to the public.

Cooperation and Collective Responsibility

We work with people and institutions, never around them. Outcomes belong to everyone who contributed.

Democratic Participation

Members decide what the institute takes on. Assemblies are open and votes are counted in public.

Equality and Inclusion

We work without discrimination and design so that the people usually left out are the first ones in.

Sustainability

Nothing we build should borrow against the future, whether ecological, financial or social.

Fairness and Due Process

Disagreements are handled by rules agreed in advance and applied the same way to everyone.

Respect for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Declaration is the floor beneath all of our work, not a ceiling to aspire to.

Constitutional Good Faith

We read our own statutes generously and act in their spirit, not only their letter.

Constitutional Supremacy

No person or project stands above the institute's constitution. When they conflict, the constitution wins.

We are committed to advancing humanity and the common good through cooperation, participation and sustainable development.

Cooperation

We build with partners rather than for beneficiaries. Every project has more than one owner, and the credit is shared.

Participation

Members set the agenda at open assemblies. The people affected by a project help design it, run it and judge it.

Sustainable development

We use the UN Sustainable Development Goals as our compass and refuse gains today that are paid for tomorrow.
